Niseko Food & Drink
This section of Niseko Snow is dedicated to food and drink. In the near future we will be featuring restaurants in the Niseko and Kutchan areas as well as introducing Japanese food and local cuisine and food. Hokkaido, the island on which Niseko is, is one of Japan's major fresh fruit and vegetable producing areas and the produce grown here is second to none. So while in Niseko and Hokkaido be sure to taste some of Hokkaido fruit and vegetables or locally developed cusine such as Genghis Kan, a delicious lamb barbeque.
Miso Ramen
 Ramen
is a popular Japanese meal with different parts of Japan
known for various variations on this Chinese meal. Ramen
is a hearty winter or summer meal in a bowl and a standard
shop serving is sometimes difficult to eat, so definately
go on an empty stomach.
Ramen is a made with egg-noodles served in a miso, shio
(salt) or shoyu (soy-sauce) based soup. Added to this
are a wide variety of toppings, including sliced pork,
seafood and various vegetables. Other dishes
such as gyoza (steamed or fried pork dumplings) and
cha-han (fried rice) can usually be order at the ramen
shop. In Summer a noodle salad can be bought. It has
no soup and more appropriate to the heat of the Japanese
summer and definately worth a taste. Many restaurants
offer their customers pepper, salt, shichimi (7
spices) and other condiments as optional additives which will be on the table
or counter.
 Ramen
is also available at the conbini (convienience store)
and is known as cup noodle. If you look you will find
a huge range rangeing in price from under ¥100
and up. Some of the more expensive brands are pretty
good.
